We are passionate about water safety.

Through one-on-one lessons, we provide your child with the confidence and competence to keep themselves safe both in and around the water.

How do you teach my child water safety?

The primary goal is the same; however below are the basics that will be taught to keep your child safe around water

Infants 6 months - 1 year

learn the ISR Self-Rescue™ skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest and breathe. They learn to maintain this position until help arrives.

Children over 1 year old

learn the ISR Self-Rescue™ sequence of swimming until they need air, rotating onto the back to float, then rolling back over to continue swimming. ISR students are taught to repeat this sequence until they reach the safety of the steps, side of the pool, or the shoreline.

Every ISR student practices their skills fully-clothed, because many children who drown were not dressed for a day at the pool or beach.

To maximize safety and impact, all ISR lessons are 1 to 1 between Kathleen and your child and run between 6- 8 weeks based on your child’s skill development. (Most children finish in 6 weeks, with babies under 12 months typically needing 4 to 6 weeks).

Kathleen will work with your child until they confidently have the skills needed to save themselves if they were to reach the water alone.  These skills also provide your child with a foundation for a lifetime of fun and safe enjoyment of the water. Lessons are tailored to each individual student.

About ISR
Founded in 1966 by Dr. Harvey Barnett, Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) is now the global leader in the industry it pioneered: survival swimming lessons for infants and young children. Our team of nearly 700 highly trained ISR Instructors provides the safest and most effective survival swimming lessons available. The ISR Self-Rescue instruction our students receive today is the product of more than 50 years of research and achieves unparalleled results.

ISR believes that pool fences, supervision, and pool alarms are important parts of a necessary multi-layered approach to drowning prevention. However, traditional lines of defense break down, and the over 4,000 drowning deaths per year bear a grim testament to the fact that traditional approaches are missing a key component: the child. ISR’s core conviction is that the child is the most important part of a drowning prevention strategy and our over 300,000 ISR graduates and 800 documented survival stories are proof that children can save themselves.

Children are curious, capable, and have an uncanny ability to overcome obstacles like pool fences; at ISR we take that ability and teach them skills to potentially save themselves if they find themselves in the water alone.
